The Event Log screen displays a
report of various events and errors recorded by the application.
The system logs all errors but also 'security' events. Such 'security'
events are triggered when web site users (or web agents, see paragraph below)
attempt to bookmark restricted pages or try to access the shopping cart pages in
a manner that is incompatible with appropriate security. Although 'security'
events are normal during operation, they may also indicate attempts at breaching
security (hacking) by web site users. The IP address field recorded by the Event
Manager can prove useful when tracking suspicious activity.
Admin Center errors and events are also logged and displayed on the event log
report.
Processing errors (such as time-outs) occur from time to time due to Internet
activity and users may innocently once in a while do strange things that could
be construed as a security breach attempts. However, a large number of errors or
security events originating from the same computer (or group of computers) needs to
be seriously taken into consideration and reported to your Service Provider as it
could indicate a server or network problem, a software defect or
attempts to compromise the web site security.
The report footer displays the number of events found for the date range and the
order/event ratio. Abandoned orders are included when calculating the
order/event ratio. Multiple errors/events generated by the same IP address are
counted as one.
Web Agents:
Web agents such as spiders, crawlers, gophers and other internet-indexing
robots may trigger errors or security events when accessing shopping cart pages
without supplying the expected HTTP headers. To avoid cluttering your events log
and keep a better handle on 'real' errors and events, we recommend that you
install a ROBOTS.TXT file in your web site's root folder. The ROBOTS.TXT file
contains instructions for agents to ignore specified folders.
The example ROBOTS.TXT below instructs agents to avoid some folders on the web
site.
# For all robots.
